Separate Diving from Swimming

Feb 19, 2010

Voice your opinion! Do you think diving should be separated from swimming? John Craig in Swimming World editorial (Feb. 17, 2010) makes a good arguement for separating the two sports. Take a look at the article in the news section and weigh in.

I never thought about that before! It was an interesting article. I think that diving should be separated as longa s it wouldn't cause any diving programs to be cancelled for lack of funding as a separate sport.

I thought it was an interesting article also. I think the main problem with separating the two would be the funding issue. Swimming is so much larger than diving that tacking on the swimming title to diving gives the sport more clout. In addition, diving also adds points to the swimming totals in competitions. If the divers do well, they can make the difference between winning the meet or not.
